FAQs
WHAT IS A 501(C)(4)?WHY IS LCLA NOT A 501(C)(3)?
LCLA is a social welfare organization and what makes our organization different from a 501(c)(3) is that we can also endorse specific candidates. An example of this status includes political action groups to advance immigration or civil rights. While nonprofit organizations with this status are also tax-exempt, donations to 501(c)(4) groups are not tax-deductible.
HOW DO I REACH OUT FOR A POLITICAL ENDORSEMENT?
How do I reach out for a political endorsement? An endorsement request can now be submitted through our website, under the endorsement tab. All endorsement requests will be processed by LCLA’s Endorsement Committee. Once you have applied, the committee will contact you on next steps. If you have any questions about the endorsement process, please contact Cindy Villegas at latinocoalitionlapresident@gmail.com.
How do I become a member?
You can join our membership here or by sending an email to our membership chair and Vice President at LatinocoalitionLAvicepresident@gmail.com . Please contact us via email with any inquiries or questions.
What are the benefits to being a member?
LCLA offers its members a variety of benefits – both tangible and intangible. Including opportunities to participate in our member-driven committees, create grassroots campaigns, participate in endorsement processes for elected officials, advocate for local public policy, connections with our political and professional networks, and, on occasion, speaking and writing opportunities via local and statewide media outlets.
How can I participate in LCLA?
We welcome any and all individuals who believe in our mission and want to participate in advocating for Latinx and other marginalized communities within Los Angeles. We welcome individuals to participate in our efforts in the capacity you feel most comfortable. (E.g. membership, philanthropy, etc.)
What do my contributions go to?
Contributions made to LCLA are directly used towards addressing key issues affecting our community such as cyber redlining, homelessness, and much more. Ranging from technology and event costs to supporting grassroots canvassing and emergency funding initiatives, LCLA is a nimble organization and your support fuels the fight to disrupt inequity in Los Angeles.
I am too busy to be a member - what else can I do to help?
